GICCT — the Global Institute of Cybersecurity, Cloud & Technology — needed more than a website. It needed a credible digital home that could present a full catalogue of professional training programs, establish authority in a competitive field, and rank in both Greek and English search. The brief was effectively: build the entire platform, end to end, from a blank slate.
The challenge
An education institute lives or dies on perceived credibility. A prospective student deciding where to invest in a cybersecurity certification judges the institute partly by how serious and professional its online presence feels. The site had to communicate authority instantly, organise a large and growing course catalogue without becoming unwieldy, and be discoverable by people searching for training in Greece — a market where the most valuable queries are in Greek even when the course content is in English.
It also had to be built to last: easy for the client to extend with new courses and instructors, fast, secure, and free of the bloat and fragility that page-builder sites accumulate over time.
The approach
I built a completely custom WordPress theme from scratch — no page builders, no bloated frameworks. Every template is hand-coded PHP, which keeps the site fast, secure, and fully under control. The architecture is built around two custom post types, Courses and Instructors, managed through ACF so the client can add and edit content without touching code.
The design system is deliberate: a two-tone teal palette on deep navy, an all-caps display typeface paired with a clean reading face, and a signature animated radar motif on the homepage that ties directly into the institute’s security identity. The same visual language carries through every template — course pages, instructor profiles, the blog, and the legal pages — so the site feels like one coherent product rather than a collection of pages.
What was built
- A bespoke WordPress theme — hand-coded templates for the homepage, course catalogue, single course, instructor directory, instructor profiles, blog, and legal pages, with a shared design system and zero page-builder dependencies.
- A 14-course catalogue — each course with long-form, SEO-structured content, a curriculum module list, an FAQ section, and a sticky sidebar with contextual navigation and related courses.
- An instructor directory — profile pages with biographies, credentials, photos, and the courses each person teaches.
- Advanced technical SEO — focus keyphrases, meta data, related keyphrases, and cornerstone flagging across the catalogue, with a deliberately bilingual strategy: Greek-language metadata to compete in the local market, English on-page content.
- Rich structured data — hand-built EducationalOrganization, Course, Person, and FAQPage schema, reconciled cleanly with the SEO plugin so search engines see one coherent, connected entity graph.
- A custom brand mark — a radar-rings logo designed to scale from a full lockup down to a progressive-detail favicon that stays legible at 16 pixels.
- A content engine — a styled blog with a batch of in-depth, SEO-optimised articles targeting high-intent searches, each internally linked to the relevant courses to channel authority where it converts.
Attention to detail
The difference between a good site and a professional one lives in the details. This build handles the things most sites get wrong: Greek accent rules in all-caps headings (where accents are dropped — handled automatically), progressive-detail favicons that don’t turn to mush at small sizes, whole-card link targets for better usability, schema that doesn’t duplicate itself, and a mobile experience tuned to stay fast and clean rather than a cramped copy of the desktop layout.
The result
GICCT now has a platform that looks and behaves like an established institution — fast, polished, and credible — with a content architecture engineered to grow and to rank. Every part of it, from the schema graph to the radar logo, was custom-built rather than assembled from off-the-shelf parts, which means the client owns a clean, maintainable codebase with no licensing dependencies or builder lock-in.
